Link building for business websites
Once you’ve got your website up, running and submitted to various search engines then it’s time to look to SEO, search engine optimisation, to help establish your pages as high up the organic rankings as you can. The organic rankings are the free listings that appear on the left hand side of search pages, as opposed to the listings which appear on the right which come under the banner of paid SEO.
Building links from other sites to yours is something you should aim to develop, continuously, over time. As the number of links to any page give an ‘authority’ to a page, it follows that the higher authority of a page linked from, influences the organic ranking potential of the page linked to. If you follow all that!
Link building success is not something that should be looked upon as a short term goal and it’s wise to be on guard against companies who offer to establish links for you in return for cash. Link farms may provide you with lots of links, but if Google thinks the pages they’re coming from have been generated just to provide content to link from – well, it needn’t be spelt out – Google aren’t stupid are they?
As with many things in life, start slowly, experience small successes, build on those successes. Be persistent and consistent in your method of approaching link building. Maybe set yourself a target of so many a week, or month. It all depends how much time you’re prepared to allocate to getting pages listed on a variety of other websites, including directories. Re. directories, my opinion is that it’s a better idea to do a search for those which have relevance to your business sector and geographical area of business. Start there and work outwards, upwards, downwards, sideways; just apply a bit of strategy rather than an all out attack, is what I’d suggest.
However, if you really want to “go for it” visit www.directorycritic.com. As well as a top 10 I understand they list over 1000′s of web directories for you to consider. That should keep you busy!
